Ode to Fashion

Ah fashion, like an old friend you welcome me into the tight knit circle that appreciates you for all that you offer. You drape so tantalizingly on the stylized mannequins behind the glass out of reach but approachable by just a slide of a card or a rustled exchange of paper for the silks, linens and cashmere by which you were so designed. An ongoing love hate relationship where your trends become fads and some become classic staples that must reside in the closet of everyone who's ever appreciated and have adapted the talent of piecing you together in ensembles that are ingenious pairings of old and new, luxurious and bargain, hard and soft, grunge and preppy ......

You speak volumes of the wearers tastes of lack thereof, their wealth, their ability to compromise, who's showy and whose understated, relaxed or uptight. Though many may reject your importance and scoff at those who do, you are worn by all no matter how tattered, ill fitting or hideous it was all designed by someone. No matter how trivial the piece its a stepping stone to a greater piece. No matter how they reject you it's inevitable that in order to succeed you must dress the part.

It's always exciting to see you strewn across magazines come September Issue and strutting down the runways in all your manifests. To think it all started with an idea and then conceptualized into reality within a matter of impossible deadlines by some of the most elite of designers e.g Balmain, Prabal Gurung, Pringle of Scotland,Vivienne Westwod, Diane Von Furstenburg, Chanel, Marc Jacobs and the list goes on of talented artists with a vision of the story you will tell for each season. You will always be my passion and my appreciation will never waver.
What are your views? How has fashion impacted your life? Leave a comment below would love to hear your story.

Kim and Kanye Wed

So over the weekend Kim and Kanye got hitched and there are bets on how long it will last and some of us are saying "enough already" and I hear you but as a true fashion lover I am only here to talk about the clothes of the hour. I must admit that I am a little jealous that she wore Balmain who is one of my favourite designers of all time (I like my fashion with a little edge) on the the bachelorette night and at the reception. I however did not expect the Givenchy Haute Couture dress she wore on the day it was quite conservative for the socialite's usual sexy attire but nonetheless it was perfection in fit and all that matters is that she was happy in what she wore and how it made her feel. My theory on wedding dresses is " at the end of the day you are wearing the dress, so you have to feel the prettiest you've ever felt in it" so please don't listen to the bulldozer friends and family that go with you to shop for your gown. Congrats Kim and Kanye I really wish you the best.

The Other Woman

So saw The Other Woman yesterday and I have to say it was a phenomenal movie. Not to mention the wardrobe, I just had to see who the costume designer was and of course it was Patricia Field of Sex & The City. Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann were a great pair and they had great chemistry on screen. Between the plot the jokes the wardrobe Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz it was epic to say the least. I loved it. Here are a few of the ensembles I found that I want in my closet.

Happy Mother's Day

To every woman who takes care of yours or anyone else's children. Have a great day and know all your hard work is appreciated Happy Mother's Day

Trend Or Foe

So we all know that fashion can leave us with buyers remorse as we're taken up in the moment that we find pieces we must have in our closets. Well.... here's the catch to that reasoning; when we unpack our mounds of bags we've purchased we realize we've gone over budget and we really didn't need that cashmere scarf that cost $500.
The key to trends is that it sometimes lasts for a few months and then it's onto the next one and your left with an item you're lackluster about. Don't feed into all trends, pick and choose according to your body type, personal style and what you already have in your closet. Visualize your closet when shopping and take a truthful friend with you to confirm your doubts on an item you're lingering on. Bell bottoms, pheasant tops,  acid wash jeans are all trends that stay on short term and leave us feeling "What was I thinking?". If you're really set on being on trend buy the cheaper versions if you don't intend on wearing it when it's out of season because $300 is far more to spend on a jeans you'll only wear one or two time as opposed to $50. Trends tend to make or break you; it can leave a hole in your wallet or it can add a piece to your wardrobe that can be a staple.
I often see people wear a trend let's say it's the high waisted pants and not take into consideration their height, their size (yes the belly bulge) or the styling of it. Trends have to be well executed and personalized to look good on a person you also have to be honest with yourself. if you're short and apple shaped with skinny legs and you wear a baloony top (pheasant top etc) you'll make yourself look like a lollipop. The key is to work with your figure, balance it out. So for a an apple shape a structured top and a fuller pants or skirt would balance out your frame.
That's why their are so many fashion bloggers out there showing you that you control your style you can wear Prabal Gurung, H&M, Lanvin and Forever21 all in the same outfit. You just need to really listen to yourself and what makes you feel and look chic, your best self, mix and match. It takes time for some people years but you'll get the hang of it once you stop bombarding yourself with what's in and listening to what makes this ensemble you. Because you are what you wear, people judge you on your appearance and how you style yourself.
If you're lost on what to wear pinterest is the bomb for it's visual sharing, blogs
and the list goes on, and you can always check the fashion section of magazines like vogue, elle, marie claire.
Happy shopping everyone =)

Met Gala 2014 Red Carpet

A night to go all out and wear the most extravagant gowns inspired by fantasy itself. I love this event as it really shows the true talent of fashion and it's designers that create these beautiful works of art that glide across the red carpet worn by the famous faces that have graced our homes on our screens. So let's get to the who looked the part and who didn't.

I love DVF I think she really gets the silhouette of a woman and how to design for it and this is no exception, I'm not sure it's what you expect for the Met Gala per say but it is a beautiful gown and Selena Gomez was the perfect candidate for it.

Ah Taylor Swift, I think Vogue's Grace Coddington is solely responsible for the big transformation of Taylor from the doe like curls to chic and sophisticated straight hair with bangs for her shoot of the coveted fashion magazine and thus she has attained a personal style. However this Oscar de la Renta dress though very beautiful didn't to the country pop star justice as the the pale color washes her out and the silhouette is wrong for her. What do you think?

As Kristen Stewart is the new spokesperson for Chanel it's only fitting she wear the designer
Lea Michele, in Altuzarra
Emma Stone,I think is one of if not my favourites for the night in a Thakoon dress, Miu Miu shoes and a Tod's clutch. The colour of this dress on her
Kendall Jenner, in Topshop
Charlize Theron, in Christian Dior
Blake Lively, in Gucci need I say more. She knows her body and what compliments her
Anne Hathaway, in Calvin Klein
Olivia Munn, in DVF. Ah Diane you have done it again this yellow dress is to die for.
Kate Bosworth, in Stella McCartney. Didn'y like this look as it reminds me of the 90s
Gisele Bundchen, in Balenciaga. This dress looks like a been there done that better dress on her. She wore a black Givenchy dress in 2012 and looked sleek n sophisticated and last year a black Anthony Vacarello dress. Firstly it's time to deviate from the black and secondly she looked to laid back for the event.
gisele bundchen tom brady met ball 2013 red carpet 01gisele-met-gala-2014
Shailene Woodley, in Rodarte. Uhh all I can say is No.

The Queen of these events did not to disappoint in Oscar de la Renta

Lupita Nyong'o, in Prada. I'm not sure about this ensemble as she has become a fashion icon overnight it her flawless decisions of what she wears on Red Carpet but..... I don'y know you decide. However she would be the one to pull this off.

Anna Kendrick, seems quite fond of J. Mendel as she's worn the designer numerous times to events, the dress is simple and elegant and sometimes less is more. She looks a lot like Tina Fey here, don't you think?

Naomi Watts was the epitomy of what the event is coveted for in Givenchy Haute Couture.

Emmy Rossum, in Carolina Herrera

Jessica Pare, in Michael Kors

Model Suki Waterhouse, in Burberry

Chloe Grace Moretz, looks youthful and chic in Chanel

Zoe Saldana, in Michael Kors
