Critics Choice Awards 2014

So the awards season is officially open and the shows are literally back to back. the celebs that parade the red carpet can either hold the safe card and not take any chances at all, take great chances and it be a hit or miss or just choose the worst possible garment and throw it on and call it a day. So we're talking about the Critics Choice Awards last night, it may not be as coveted as other award shows but it still singles out the truly talented from the highly favoured. So I'm just running through my faves of the night.
FAVOURITES:
Lupita Nyong'o didn't disappoint and chose a white Calvin Klein number that somehow mimicked the simple yet sophisticated red Ralph Lauren of the Golden Globes

Sandra Bullock a lot of people didn't like it but I think she looked fun and fresh

Amy Adams loved the cut of this dress on her and the colour

Jessica Chastain I know it has similiar traits to the red dress Berenice Bejo wore to the GG but it wasn't overpowering and it added a nice touch to her small frame

Melissa McCarthy. I preferred this gorgeous tie dye dress to her black dress worn at the Golden Globes. I found she looked fresh and relaxed

She's back everyone and in black and white, though it may not be my favourite dress she's worn it's much more her than her GG dress.
Actress Julia Roberts attends the 19th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards at Barker Hangar on Jan. 16, 2014 in Santa Monica, California.

Margot Robbie was another that is still in her streak of fierce ensembles for the award season in this black romper

Still one of my fave couples on the red carpet. They really do compliment each other

The Golden Globes 2014

Let's talk Golden Globes Red Carpet, the stars came out in the good the bad and the down right ugly. I'd like to start with the Pretty Mamas: Kerry Washington, Olivia Wilde and Drew Barrymore; in my opinion it's best to embrace the bump as being a mom myself you're glowing your hair looks phenomenal and... the downside you may not always feel 100% but it's best to wear gowns with less cloth and frills to even out the bump. Anyways my fave of the night was Olivia in Gucci from the cut to the shade of green the relaxed waves in hair made her look fresh and comfortable in her skin. Kerry looked so cute in her Balenciaga the cut of the dress was so whimsical and sweet. Though quite cheerful and happy Monique Lhuillier's gown was a bit much for Drew's frame and overpowered her but she's with child and I'm not going to pound her for her flower filled number.

Onto the next category my faves of the night Lupita Nyong'o in a red cape dress by Ralph Lauren

Amy Adams in Valentino

Cate Blanchett always stuns in her fashion current ensembles and she didn't disappoint in her black lace Armani PrivĂ© gown

Fave Couples:

And the feigned category of the gowns that left question marks on everyone's faces Zoey Saldana I love you but this dress felt like an homage to the beloved Christmas tree it's not your fault it's  Prabal Gurung for telling you it was meant for you, you looked gorgeous but the dress not so much.
Zoe Saldana

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior was nice in theory but she had to keep pulling at her dress for it to sit right; and a dress that needs to be tugged and pulled at raises red flags for me. It cut her body off in three places , it just wasn't the right dress for her.

Jennifer Lawrence

Berenice Bejo in a red barnacle inspired dress did nothing for her curves

Berenice Bejo

I'm on the fence about this Dolce and Gabanna ensemble that Julia Roberts decided to wear. She's a beautiful woman that has stunned us so many time in the past with her choices like the black and white vintage Valentino dress but I'm not sure if I like this one.

Happy New Year

So it's the year 2014 and it's a clean slate on all things including fashion. Our resolutions can hold so much promise to new beginnings, our new more improved selves, whether it be a new wardrobe or just an extra effort on our part to make ourselves look more put together. It's time for us to rustle thorough our closets and decide what to keep and what to give away. Note to keep in mind; try on the clothes it will make the decision easier.

You are your own agent and how you present yourself to the world is what the world will perceive you to be; so if you wear curlers and a stained sweatshirt with gym shorts two sizes too big well you'll be perceived as (to put it lightly) "a hot mess".

Work clothes don't have to be boring cliche 2 or 3 piece suits made from unbreathable polyester (picture 1), it can emulate your personality just as well as your casual wear by mixing and matching and choosing richer looking fabrics (picture 2), well structured dresses are nice as well (picture 3). Make a vow to spend some time on your hair (it may not always be easy but it finishes your look), educate yourself on styles that suit your face. Remember a well put together ensemble makes you look professional and confident because you care about how you look which reflects on your company. So let this be one of your resolutions to brand yourself age appropriately out with the old in with the new. Key pieces like blazers and dresses (that fit you) need to occupy your closet.

Avoiding buyers remorse

So it's a sale at your favorite store and you just got paid your eye stops on a tribal print blazer, aqua skinny jeans.....and you're faced with the question of what to put back when you look at the plethora of must haves in your your arms. When faced with this dilemma the best thing to do is visualize your existing wardrobe and ask what items can go with what you already have?
We all get excited at the fact that this dress was 175 and now it's 60 as our selling point but then when we reach home we're hit with the inevitable buyers remorse when we realize we spent a lot of money on bargain items that don't go with anything. As you know with new seasons come new trends and they don't always marry well with last seasons stuff. So we as the consumer and fashion lovers have to think through our purchases or face the consequences. Sometimes if you're lucky a simple thing like an accessory can tie a look together , a belt for instance. Pairing, mixing and matching of prints and textures is something any self respecting fashion lover should know how to do and do it right.
So my advice is, as you walk through the store plan complete outfits of a mix of what you have and what you see and the cloud of regret won't hang over you at the end of the day.
So enjoy your sale, eat before you go and think before you buy. Xoxo

Golden Globes 2013

So this was a while ago so I'm sure you've developed your own opinions of what was stunning and what was lackluster on the stars of the red carpet that night. One thing I observed that was commonly lacking was the styling; the gowns were beautiful and the hair a hot mess. Now firstly it's the Golden Globes and don't get me wrong there is no crime to wearing you hair out to such an event but like everything there is a way to do it.

DO

DON'T

Get the point, tousled hair isn't appropriate for GG, the Grammys maybe but not here.

My best dressed (no I am not indulging in worse dressed, I think they're been ripped to threads enough ) :

Red Carpet Globes: Helen MirrenMegan Fox, Brian Austin GreenAmy AdamsAnne HathawayJennifer Garner

Love them or hate them, they look well  put together from hair to dress. Kate Hudson dresses to he rliking and it shows she look confident and polished and Megan Fox didnt she just  have a baby? Where did the weight go. I f we could all be so lucky.

Emerald trend 2013

A trend that seems to be a staple for 2013 is Emerald, you're seeing it in fashion in design, paint colours, you name it. Now Emerald can be a very flattering colour as it is in the jewel tones which is quite flattering on a lot of skin tones. I always love jewel tones as it somehow brings a special element to the design of the the ensemble or whatever item it may be. It's forgiving. Now in every trend it must be done right, it's already a colour that can stand on it's own without an added element although if you don't mind being a showstopper there's always sequins; maybe in a pattern or uniquely draped, not in a whole pants suit (separates) keep it crisp.
