The Grammy's 2012

Sorry this poet is late.

The Grammy's was a platform for more of a creative style of dress, to truely be expressive as it isn't as conformed as other award shows. The day before the event the unfortunate news of Whitney Houstan's passing loomed over the evening with both sentimental and sad notes.
There were the celebs that left impressions on me and I'm not too sure if I liked it or hated it but one of them is Fergie, this  Jean Paul Gaultier number looked phenomenal but I think the choice of undergarment threw it off; hats off to her for taking a chance as she usually does though.

Jessie J's metallic number by Julien MacDonald  wasn't very functional as it was said to way around 14 pounds and  left her with scratches on her back. I guess beauty does equal pain sometimes.

Taylor swift sported a Zuhair Murad gold gown intricately worked. It was a beautiful dress but I felt it was a bit old for the 22 year old witj sleek hairstyle and hight collar.

Carrie Underwood wore a beautiful and sleek dress by Gomez-Garcia. The simple front and plunging back was super chic.

Julianne Hough wore a black strapless number by Kaufman Franco. It was effortlessly chic loved it.

Katy Perry (Ellie Saab) and Adele (Giorgio Armani) wore sparkly numbers

SAG Awards Fashion

Ah, it's that time of year again where the rich and famous gather at red carpet events decked out in the most exquisite dresses and jewels. First it was the Golden Globe Awards and then last night's SAG Awards, one of the more laid back events but still an opportunity to dress up and take more chances with dress length etc. My favourites of the night were Rose Burns in Elie Saab and white sequinned jumpsuit, minimal jewellery as the ensemble was an accessory itself and her hair was worn in a short bob with sharp bangs, it was perfection, loved it. Michelle Williams wore a red Valentino dress with a lace detailing at the neck, she looked like a star, it was simple but made a statement. Emily Stone in a black Alexander McQueen dress that hit just above the ankle , was young and fresh but sophisticated. Natalie Portman in Giambattista Valli's Couture, very chic . Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture, breathtaking craftsmanship. Ashlee Simpson in Jenny Packham looked like old Hollywood perfection. Marchesa seemed to star quite a lot (Stacy Keiblera, Viola Davis, Sofia Vergara etc. )   As was the popular colour was a hue of grey in the dresses.

Trends and how to do them right 2012

Hey guys , the verdict is in and another trend is out there looming over us like a cloud; we want to wear it but don't know how or it doesn't always suit our body type. So here are a few tips I live by when shopping:

1) Be true to yourself. ( if you don't like how it looks on you put it back or try another fit or colour and if by then you still don't like it, forget about it.)

2)Accessorizing ( a lot of trends need trimmings n such to personalize it and make it you. So think beyond the blank canvas of the ensemble and think of what it can be paired with in your closet)

3) Is quite similar to (2). Think of what you already have in you closet. ( you can end up with a lot of pieces that don't go together. Unless you plan buying a whole outfit that goes together)

4) Quality vs Quantity. (We can weigh the pros and cons of this one but there's always a middle ground. Let's face it even the celebrities would pair a H&M top with a Versace blazer, guess jeans and Louboutin heels and an Hermes bag. But my suggestion to this is let the main pieces be quality pieces e.g Jackets/blazers, jeans, dresses. You can buy quantity in these items as well but usually quality items last longer.

5) Be smart. ( if the trend looks like it will have a short shelf life (e.g harem pants, ahem) and you are starving yourself to buy it, don't. Or get a dare I say a cheap version, that way you can cut and reconstruct into something useful.

6) Last but not least. Have fun. We all make mistakes but we learn and move on from them so don't be afraid to make a "wrong choice". Hair grows out, clothes can be thrown away or given away and a day is only 24 hours. Take the chance the "wrong choice might end up being the right one and you may discover that you can rock a mullet, crocs, or your grandfather's winter coat. Who cares what people think.

Well I hope these steps help you like they do me. A new year for a clean slate makes for an exciting wardrobe.

Happy New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 2012. another year to reinvent ourselves, learn from last years mishaps and forge on with new hope than this year will be better than the last. Another year for fashion to be changed and given a new vision. It'a all been done before but it must be given new life (which to me is the interesting part). So I look forward to this year and all that it has to offer. Cheers everyone and enjoy the new year.

Dressed - Official Trailer [HD]

The journey of a designer isn't the glamorous picture we see after their success but the bumps in the road of wondering where their next meal is coming from, asking the question "Will I ever make it?" and despite it all still holding onto that passion inside called the will that makes your charge forward at all costs just to get your point of view across. To let the world know your voice does count and that you have something to offer. I can so relate to this documentary, as fashion is an unforgiving relentless beast that can devour you and leave you in shambles and yet the love you have for creating it leaves you forging on with nothing but the clothes on your back to really call your own. I think every one who aspires to be a designer should see this movie..... who aspires to be anything should see this movie.
